Published by ‘The Friends of Luxulyan Valley’
Situated in the heart of Cornwall, near St Austell, the Luxulyan Valley is perhaps the County’s best kept secret.
This Guide to the Luxulyan Valley, which is now a World Heritage Site, includes many new and reproduced old photographs and postcards plus an A4 colour map of the area.
As well as a walking guide to the area, it also contains an introduction to its mining and quarrying history, its archaeological remains, wildlife and unique leat system.
Within this booklet is information on Joseph Treffry’s magnificent granite built viaduct-cum-aqueduct, his horse-drawn and water powered tramway system and the Cornwall Minerals Railway linking Par with Newquay. Details are also included on the other structures within the valley include the awesome Carmears Wheel pit, Ponts Mill and the Trevanney china clay kiln.
